Cops still mum on fatal falls

Residents in a west Ottawa apartment building are still in the dark about the death of two people Friday night.

Cops weren’t at the scene Sunday and Ottawa Police still aren’t addressing inquiries, only saying an investigation is underway.

A man in his 30s and a 29-year-old woman apparently fell from a 10th floor balcony at 2045 Carling Ave., just east of Carlingwood Mall, around 11 p.m. Friday night.

They were found without vital signs.

The man was dead at the scene and the woman died soon after.

The incident took place in apartment 1021, which according to the floor plan is a one bedroom apartment.

A young man was spotted moving furniture out of the apartment Sunday afternoon.

Rumors are rampant in the building.

“Nobody knows anything,” said a 10th floor resident who didn’t want her name used.

She said she saw the young couple a few days ago.

“I saw the girl waiting for him,” she said. “He had his bike.”

And neighbours are questioning whether the death was accidental.

“He was such a good-looking guy,” said a neighbour. “Always smiling and saying hello to everybody.”

Another resident said he saw the building surrounded by emergency crews Friday.

Police were using flashlights, he said.

It was so dark, he said, it was hard to see anything from his 10th floor balcony.
