For years, I’ve been photographing people or objects at crime scenes, government press conferences, festivals, etc. so capturing plated items was initially quite the challenge. I learn by doing, and while the first few hundred images were mediocre at best, there’s been significant improvement. Here are some of the most favourite raw (iPhone) images from eating my way across Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, and Milton. #nofilter
This triple B meatball sandwich from B’s Banh Mi (with juicy pork meatballs and fresh basil) gets an assist from the natural light.
One of my faves, Ravioli al Brasato di Manzo, at The Express Italian Eatery. You’d better believe it tastes as great as it looks.
You know your photos are aiight when they’re on the resto’s social — for food and drink. This is the Cacao Avocado Mousse at Wundeba.
*Swoons over memories of The Burger at Culaccino.* Still enjoying the contrast of the black and white sesame seeds on the top and bottom buns.
Don’t have much of a sweet tooth but sugar sprinkled onto the apple strudel at Schillings Patisserie got me good.
The angle of the charcuterie board at Bru had to be just right for this shot.
Spandauer at the Danish Pastry House needs no introduction. Another assist from the window seat, and love those almond details!
Same goes for Emma’s Back Porch and this Seafood Mac and Cheese dish. The green garnish made this photo work.
Unconventional gelato flavours (avocado, charcoal, and blueberry basil sorbet) made for an interesting contrast.
Which food items do you think are the easiest and most difficult to capture?
P.S. The pizza in the cover photo is from Plank.
