Young man killed in motorcycle crash

A 22-year-old Ottawa man was killed in a motorcycle crash in the rural west end early Sunday.

“For an unknown reason, he lost control, struck a guardrail and was pronounced dead at the scene,” said acting Insp. John McGetrick.

The crash happened around 1:10 a.m. on Old Richmond Rd. near Cambrian in a stretch bordered by fields.

The speed limit is 80 km/h.

The man was heading northbound through a bend when he hit a guardrail, spinning out.

Blood stains spattered the pavement and visible tread marks were seen near the shoulder.

The driver was ejected and his motorbike lost its front wheel.

Paramedics found the man without vital signs and said he suffered multi-system trauma.

Investigators are looking at a “multitude of causes,” said McGetrick, noting there’s no definitive indication speed or alcohol are factors in his death.

“It’s too early” to say, he said.

The man’s family has been notified and police won’t be releasing his name.
