A group of hardcore Sens faithful are taking their hometown swagger to the Big Apple for Game 7 between the Senators and Rangers on Thursday.
“We’re super pumped,” said Brett Starke, 26, a fan of Sens defenceman Matt Carkner.
“We’ll be showing the (team) colours and making sure there’s Sens support out there.”
Friends Alex Sirois, Stephen Borchuk, Laura Johnson, and Catherine Girard will be joining Starke.
They’re forking over $250 apiece for 400-level seats at Madison Square Garden, which they bought online using stubhub.com.
“I don’t know anyone else who’s going,” said Starke.
The group of twenty-somethings are all bar employees at Pier 21 or Liquor Store Party Bar.
They’ll be finishing work around 4 a.m. Thursday, then piling into Starke’s Mitsubishi SUV for a haphazard eight-hour road trip.
Game time is 7 p.m.
“I’m driving,” said Starke, adding he’s the only one with a vehicle big enough to fit everyone.
“We’re even using the extra seat in the back, the child seat.”
They don’t have a hotel booked.
“We’ll figure it out,” said Starke.
They came up with the idea to go while attending a Sens home game earlier in the series.
Starke said his real estate agent asked if he’ll be at MSG.
“We were at Bert’s (restaurant at Scotiabank Place),” said Starke.
Spontaneity took over and they bought the tickets to Game 7 on the spot, using a smartphone.
The gang will be hightailing it home Friday, since they’re all working that night.
“It’s going to be a tough drive back,” said Starke.
