Sutton man charged with luring Renfrew girl

A 22-year-old Sutton man was arrested Wednesday and is facing several child pornography-related charges after allegedly luring a Renfrew girl last winter.

Provincial police searched the man’s home in this Lake Simcoe community north of Toronto, and seized two computers after investigating for nearly seven months.

The family of the victim, in her early teens, filed a complaint with Renfrew OPP last January, said Det-Sgt. Paul Thompson from the child sexual exploitation section.

Cops didn’t need an undercover sting to make the arrest.

“He was using his real identity online, that we know of,” Thompson said. It’s unknown if the man and the girl met in person.

“What we do know, it was an online relationship that took place,” said Thompson, adding it’s also unclear if there was a relationship prior to the online chats, or if the man targeted any other children.

That’s where the computer data analysis — which cops are sifting through — comes in.

And police are reminding parents to be vigilant.

“Parents have to know what their children are doing online,” he said.

Bradley Thomas Diamond is charged with three counts of luring a child on the Internet, one count of indecent act and one count of invitation to sexual touching. Diamond is in custody after appearing in Pembroke court for a bail hearing Thursday.

He’ll appear in court again Monday and the OPP investigation is ongoing.
