Gatineau police detectives have 15 new leads about three attempted abductions that happened last month but are still trying to identify one of the victims.
Police released her first name and description: “Caroline” stands between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9 inches, has long, curly brown hair and was toting a camouflage print purse.
“We’re still looking for her,” said Const. Pierre Lanthier, adding they’ve even gone door to door.
Since releasing a composite sketch of the suspect a few weeks ago, the total tips are now at 65, said Lanthier.
Police said the same man — driving a grey Ford Focus — tried to abduct three women in their 20s in three separate incidents on June 8.
All victims fled unharmed after being targeted between 9 p.m. and midnight.
The first attempt was on Maloney St. E. and the next one happened near Notre Dame St. and Lorrain Blvd.
The third occurred in the parking lot of a restaurant on La Baie St.
A witness who broke up the abduction attempt reported the incident.
When victims don’t come forward, Lanthier said, it’s usually because they’re afraid of the legal system and facing their attacker in court.
“It’s not that easy for a victim,” he said.
