The Germans are coming.
The reigning pyromusical champions will be back to defend their title at the 16th annual Casino du Lac-Leamy Sound of Light festival in Gatineau this summer.
Organizers say they’re trying to play up the event’s name.
“We’re going to try to bring in more light: Fire, laser, black light,” said spokeswoman Anny Spooner.
Also making an appearance are last year’s People’s Choice winners from China, as well as strong competitors from Italy and Canada.
And there’s a new component this year.
“We asked the Canada show to be basically built around specific songs from shows that we know, that we heard when we were kids, so it should be very interesting,” said Spooner.
Street performances, circus acts, and multicultural programming will also share the stage.
The international fireworks competition draws 150,000 spectators each summer.
The event is great exposure for the city on a global level, said deputy mayor of Gatineau Joseph De Sylva.
“It’s a real success, when you have no more tickets to sell,” De Sylva said.
The event runs from Aug. 6 to 20 at Lac-Leamy Park.
Tickets are $10 for general admission.
