A body was pulled from the Rideau River at Bronson Ave. just before 7 p.m.
Thursday.
The Ottawa police marine unit was dispatched to Brewer Park at about 4:30
p.m. after a man in a canoe spotted the fully-clothed body.
The marine unit tried to get the bloated body out but it was caught somehow
on the bottom.
Their boat moved but the body didn¹t.
Around 6 p.m. divers suited up.
The man who made the 911 call was alone, witnesses said, adding his dog was
swimming in the water behind him.
Police were quickly on the scene.
“One of them got into a canoe and we were even more curious, so we went over
there and yeah, saw something in the water,” said Greg Philips, 25.
Philips was painting the wall facing the river with a group of friends.
It’s one of the few legal graffiti walls in the city.
They said they didn’t see anything suspicious.
“We’re here all the time,” he said.
Philips said other than the man in the canoe, they were the only ones near
the water.
Few details have been released.
Police said the body hasn’t been identified and no information will be
released until next of kin have been notified.
