There’s posters, mugs, magnets, and all kinds of kitsch commemorating the upcoming royal wedding.
On the other side of the coin, there’s elegance: the Royal Canadian Mint is honouring the union of Prince William to Kate Middleton.
“The beautifully designed collector coins created by the Mint will give Canadians, royal watchers and collectors everywhere exceptional keepsakes by which to remember this historic event,” said president and CEO Ian Bennett.
The $20 silver coins are blinged out with a blue Swarovski crystal, symbolizing the iconic 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring Middleton is sporting.
They’re limited to a mintage of 25,000 coins worldwide.
Meanwhile, a coloured quarter bears a photo of the couple.
The collection was unveiled by Governor General David Johnston at the Mint Wednesday morning.
The $20 coin costs $104.95 while the collectible quarter can be purchased for $25.95.
Orders will ship out May 2.
Another coin featuring Prince Charles will be released in September, adding to the line of royal-themed coins.
A set honouring Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee will debut next month, marking her 60th anniversary.
The royal wedding is on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey.
