The family of an Ottawa man who went home for Christmas and is now missing in Charlottetown, P.E.I. says he’d never disappear at his own will and are worried about his safety.
“He has a great girlfriend, a great job,” Jill Rankin said about her brother, Trevor William Rankin, 38.
Rankin works as a program advisor for Natural Resources Canada and has been living in Ottawa for about 10 years.
He flew out Dec. 21 and was staying with his mom, Sharon.
According to Charlottetown Police, he was last seen at ISE’s Bar on University Ave after 1 a.m. Christmas Eve.
Jill Rankin said Trevor went out for drinks Thursday night with her 20-year-old son Josh and one of his friends.
“They went to a local bar — Hunter’s Ale House — for trivia and then they left and went to a sports bar, ISE’s Bar,” she said.
Brother Daniel Rankin said they got separated, and Josh sent Trevor a text to tell him they were leaving around 2 a.m.
After waiting 20 minutes, “they were heading in opposite directions anyway, so my nephew left,” said Daniel.
“Trevor sent a couple of texts within the next hour.”
That was the last time they heard from him.
For Rankin to not come home early Friday morning “is very out of character for him,” said Daniel.
When they call Trevor’s cell phone, it goes straight to voice mail.
“We’re assuming the phone’s dead,” Jill said.
“It makes no sense. He’d never do this to our mother. He talked to mom daily,” she said, adding the family is very close.
Daniel went to the police station at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 to file a report.
He said a taxi driver came forward and is the last person believed to have seen his brother.
“He dropped Trevor at Queen and Dorchester,” Daniel said.
“There’s a Chinese restaurant there open until 2 or 3 a.m.”
Daniel said he’s going to the restaurant, Canton Cafe, with a photo of Trevor to see if anyone saw him that night.
Trevor was supposed to return to Ottawa Jan. 4 with his girlfriend Joanne Muto.
Rankin is described as 5’9” weighing 160 pounds. He has short brown hair, blue eyes, and was clean-shaven when he went missing. He was last seen wearing a dark blue button up shirt, blue jeans and a black peacoat-type jacket.
Anyone with information should call Charlottetown Police at 1-902-629-4172 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
