OC Transpo’s $12.1-million Next Stop announcement system will be on most buses by March 31, 2011 – a month later than originally planned.
By then, the website states, the entire fleet should be equipped with the Next Stop technology, which calls out major and requested stops along the routes in English and French. About 500 buses are currently equipped with the system.
Introduced last September, other updates take place in about 2 weeks, including a new tone for “next stop” that will sound different from the “stop request” sound.
OC Transpo has over 1,000 buses and serves about 370,000 riders daily.
