Tax rebate cheques a few days late

Christmas shopping may have to be done at the last minute if you’re waiting for a sales tax rebate cheque.

An Ottawa woman said she phoned the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on Monday to find out when her Ontario Sales Tax Transition Benefit money is coming.

“The response was ‘it was scheduled to be processed and sent out on the 10th of December but there is a computer glitch and we have no date of when they will be processed’,” said Tammy Brideau.

But when contacted by the Ottawa Sun the CRA said the cheques will be released to Canada Post on Dec. 10, and mailed out over the following four to five days.

“All entitled recipients in Ontario should receive their payment by Friday, Dec. 17,” said CRA spokeperson Nona Larrett.
